Local op shop shopper wins $10K pet-friendly holiday prize

A lucky RSPCA Op Shop customer is set to embark on the holiday of a lifetime after being named the winner of RSPCA Queensland’s $10,000 pet-friendly holiday competition.

Denise, a regular visitor to her local RSPCA Op Shop, could hardly believe the news at first, admitting she thought the call might be a joke.

After what she described as an incredibly difficult year, the competition win has come at just the right moment. Denise shared that the prize has opened opportunities she never thought possible, including a dream trip to the United States with her family, with plans for even more travel down the track.

“I did feel that I needed a break, and this has made that possible,” she said. “It’s allowed me to think about creating more memories with my children and grandchildren.”

Denise is a familiar face at her local RSPCA Op Shop, often visiting weekly with her daughter and grandchildren. She spoke warmly about the welcoming atmosphere created by volunteers and the joy of finding hidden treasures together - a beautiful reminder that Op Shops are more than just stores, but community hubs.

And when it comes time to pack her bags, Denise won’t be travelling alone. Her beloved pets, Felix, Aby and Max will be a part of the adventure, making the holiday all the more special.
