New wildlife hospital urgently needed

A new purpose-built Wildlife Hospital is urgently needed, and planning is underway for a new site to protect and preserve wildlife in Southeast Queensland.

Our current RSPCA Wildlife Hospital at Wacol was built to cater for 5,000 wildlife patients and in its first year of operation in 2012 cared for 8,359 patients.

Over a decade later, the demand on our current wildlife hospital in Brisbane has increased by 400% with nearly 27,000 native animals per year being admitted for medical treatment and rehabilitation.

New wildlife hospital location announced

Together with Redland City Council, RSPCA Queensland have partnered to accelerate the vision for the new wildlife facility in the Redlands IndigiScapes Centre precinct in Capalaba.

Redland City Council shares RSPCA Queensland's values and understands the importance of protecting and preserving our native flora and fauna. Selecting this region to establish a new wildlife hospital has been a natural fit.

Our progress so far

This project is being made possible through the support of our partners and community. The Queensland Government has committed $12 million, the Australian Government has contributed $5 million through the Saving the Koalas Fund, and Redland City Council has generously donated the land for the hospital. The remaining funding is being raised through the generosity of our donors and supporters.

In total, more than $20 million has been secured towards our $25 million goal. Planning approvals are progressing, and the project remains on track for operations by the end of 2028.
