Frequently asked questions

My pet bird has flown into a tree. Can you help me catch it?

Our RSPCA Rescue Team can assist in collecting sick, injured and trapped unowned animals. For assistance with your pet bird rescue please contact SES, The Queensland Fire Department or a tree lopper/cherry picking service.

My cat is up a tree. Can you help me get it down?

Cats will usually come down from trees themselves when they feel comfortable, or when they become hungry. Usually, they will come down at night. If you need assistance in rescuing your pet cat please contact SES, The Queensland Fire Department or a tree lopper/cherry picking service.

It may be helpful to remove all the factors that could scare your cat from coming down the tree - dogs in the yard, lawn mowers etc. We normally suggest waiting 24 hours to see if the cat does come down by itself. You can also leave your cat’s favourite food at the base of the tree to encourage it to return.

If you’ve found a sick, injured or trapped unowned cat please contact our team on 1300 ANIMAL (264 625).

I can see an injured marine animal in need of rescue. Can you help?

For all marine animal rescues please contact the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation on 07 3330 4648.

I have a snake in my yard. Can you please move it?

To remove a snake from your property or yard, please contact your local Snake Catcher and Relocator. RSPCA does not have a relocation permit, but if you find an injured or trapped snake in need of rescue, please contact us on 1300 ANIMAL (264 625).

I have ducklings in my pool that can't get out, what do I do?

If you have a pool scoop, you can try to scoop the ducklings out of your pool. You can also make a makeshift ladder so they can climb out via a platform. If you are unable to do this or these methods do not work, please contact the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (264 625).

I have found a skinny, unwell dog. Will you rescue it?

If you have found an animal that requires medical treatment, please contact the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (264 625). You can also report animal welfare concerns on this number.

There is a bird with long legs staring at my glass doors, what do I do?

This may be a curlew. If you can identify that this bird is a curlew, they are renowned for admiring themselves in doors and windows and are generally ok. If the bird you have noticed is unwell, trapped or injured, you can contact the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (264 625) or your nearest wildlife rescuer.
