Lana's Story

Meet Lana

Lana is a sweet 2-year-old Poodle x Border Collie who’s hoping to find a calm, loving home where she can feel safe and let her lovely personality shine.

Shelter life has been a little overwhelming for Lana, but she bonds well with people and will often seek reassurance from those she trusts. She’s thought to have been a happy and playful girl in her previous home, so there’s every chance we’ll see more of that side of her once she’s settled. It may take a little time, though, and Lana will need her new family to be patient and let her find her feet at her own pace.

Lana would love a home where someone is around for most of the day to help her feel secure. She’ll need time to get comfortable with her new home and routine before heading out on walks or exploring new places, and any time alone should be introduced gradually. Older, respectful children who can give her space and help keep things calm may be a lovely fit.

Lana has previously lived with a cat and a bird. She can be worried around other dogs, especially if they approach too quickly, so she may be happiest as the only dog in the home. If there’s another dog in the family, a calm and respectful companion with a slow, thoughtful introduction will be important.

If you have a gentle home, a little patience and lots of love to give, Lana could be a wonderful companion. Give her the time she needs, and you may just get to see that happy, playful girl emerge.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
