Visits to Kindergarten and Primary Schools

RSPCA Queensland offers educational visits to enable children to learn and understand animal care and welfare. Our early years visits are a great way for children to learn about preventing cat and dog bites, basic pet care to keep animals happy and healthy, and how to protect our native wildlife.

The skills children learn at an early age when interacting with animals will help them to become future animal welfare advocates.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an age limit?

Children need to be aged 4 years old (pre-prep) or older to participate in an RSPCA Early Learning visit.

Can a visit be arranged virtually?

Yes, an RSPCA educator can deliver a virtual session for children in your childcare centre.

Will the topic include a live animal experience?

No, RSPCA Queensland cannot bring live animals into early education centres or schools. Our sessions utilise other methods to interactively teach children about animal welfare.

Is there a cost involved?

We’re committed to making our programs accessible to all schools. We ask schools to embed the RSPCA message through a donation or fundraiser at the school in return for a visit. All donations go back to helping us create a better world for animals in Queensland.

We also commit to providing lessons to schools we have identified as being in our target region to make generational change to animal welfare.

What programs are offered?

You can arrange a site visit from one of our education officers. We have a range of topics available. Each topic runs for approximately 30 minutes.

Can you provide customised sessions for children?

We can tailor our lessons to suit the age and interests of your students, as well as fit in with any unit of work that you are currently teaching from ages 4 years and up. Visits can include curriculum-linked lessons, RSPCA AWARE lessons, activities and presentations sharing messages around animal welfare.
