If your child loves animals, immerse them in one of our programs for a single day immersive experience during the school holidays

Canine Carers

If your child loves dogs, Canine Carers is the pawfect School Holiday program at the RSPCA. This hands-on program helps kids understand everything about dogs and how to properly care for them. Kids will also be directly helping shelter animals in need! Children will learn new skills, create fun dog toys for shelter animals and learn about dog body language.

Wildlife Crusaders

Our Wildlife Crusaders School Holiday program is designed for children who are keen to learn more about our native animals. Children will spend time in our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital, learning about the thousands of animals that come into our care. They'll see our vets and nurses in action along with animals like marsupials, birds and reptiles. Children will assist our busy hospital staff and can have hands-on animal interactions with suitable domestic reptiles.

Vet Nurse for a Day

Interested in working with animals as a career? Our Vet Nurse for a Day program is a great way to experience what it’s like to care for sick and injured animals at the RSPCA. Get a true insight and hands-on experience with animals at the RSPCA! You’ll learn about Pet First Aid basics, nursing hospitalised animals, pre and post-surgical care, and observe surgeries at our Veterinary Hospital. Participants work closely with our veterinary staff caring for patients and will leave with great insight into the daily tasks of a Vet Nurse. Our program is designed for those aged 12 to 17 years.

All Creatures

Our All Creatures Great and Small School Holiday Program gives children the chance to meet, learn and help a diverse range of animals. Children can spend time with both domestic and native wildlife at the RSPCA including: dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, guinea pigs, rats and mice, horses, pigs, goats, chickens and more. The program includes visiting our Wildlife Hospital to learn about native animals.

Feline Friends

For any child who has a love of cats and kittens, our Feline Friends program allows children to get up close and personal with RSPCA cats available for adoption. They will also learn about appropriate cat care and what it takes to keep cats happy, safe and healthy in the home. Your child will also help to make cat toys to enrich the lives of our shelter cats, learn about cat body language and how cats communicate with us. Suitable for children aged 6 to 9 years.

Frequently asked questions

What ages do your School Holiday Programs cater?

For safety reasons our school holiday programs start from 10 years of age.

What do children need to bring when participating?

Children should bring appropriate sun protection including a hat and sunscreen and wear enclosed shoes. Bring a drink bottle as clean, cold water is available onsite. Children can also bring morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Any food or drink brought from home can be refrigerated if necessary. Standard restrictions for food containing nuts etc will apply. RSPCA Queensland has an on-site cafe at Brisbane where food and drinks can be pre-ordered and collected during breaks.

Are the programs available at all shelters?

Currently our School Holiday programs are available at our RSPCA Brisbane, Wacol location.

Will my child get to cuddle lots of animals?

Where possible, participants will have some opportunities to interact with our shelter animals. However, sometimes our shelter animals also need quiet times. In these instances, we will respect our shelter animals' needs and focus on the many learning opportunities available in other ways.
