How to word a Will

What information do you need to include in your Will to ensure your wishes are fulfilled?

Suggested wording for Wills

How to ensure your wishes are carried out

To ensure your wishes are carried out, it's important to use clear and precise wording in your Will. This helps avoid misunderstandings and ensures your intent is clearly recorded.

Collaborating with the people or organisations you're leaving gifts to can also help ensure your wording aligns with their needs.

If you'd like to leave a gift in your Will to RSPCA Queensland, you can find below suggested wording to use, but we recommend consulting your solicitor.

Suggested Will wording

Whole of Estate wording

To leave RSPCA Queensland the whole of your state, below is the suggested wording.

'I give to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Queensland Limited (ABN 74 851 544 037) of 139 Wacol Station Road, Wacol Queensland 4076, the whole of my estate for the general purposes of the RSPCA Queensland. I declare the receipt of the RSPCA will be sufficient discharge for my Trustees.'

Residue of your Estate wording

After gifts to others have been taken care of, and all costs have been dealt with, the residue of your estate – everything that remains – can then be given to RSPCA Queensland to protect animals long into the future.

'I give to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Queensland Limited (ABN 74 851 544 037) of 139 Wacol Station Road, Wacol Queensland 4076: the residue of my estate for the general purposes of the RSPCA Queensland. I declare the receipt of the RSPCA will be sufficient discharge for my Trustees.'

Percentage share of your Estate wording

Some people choose to leave a percentage. Some leave everything to animals. Should you like to leave a percentage, simply state in your Will what percentage of your estate you would like to be left to RSPCA Queensland.

'I give to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Queensland Limited (ABN 74 851 544 037) of 139 Wacol Station Road, Wacol, Queensland 4076: [insert number here] percent of my estate for the general purposes of the RSPCA Queensland. I declare the receipt of the RSPCA will be sufficient discharge for my Trustees.'

Home Ever After wording

If there is no one that can give your pet a home, any of the above suggested wording can be followed by the optional sub-paragraph below to enrol your pets into the Home Ever After Program.

'AND I DIRECT that the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Queensland Limited (ABN 74 851 544 037) of 139 Wacol Station Road, Wacol, Queensland 4076 shall care for any animals or pets which I own at the date of my death until such time as a suitable home in the discretion of the said Society shall be found for such animals or pets.'
