Bear's Story

Meet Bear!

Bear is a big, lovable gentleman looking for a calm and comfortable home where he can enjoy the simple things in life. Whether it's spending time with his favourite people, relaxing in the sunshine or happily exploring the backyard, Bear is ready to be someone's loyal companion.

This handsome older boy loves investigating his surroundings and can become quite absorbed in whatever has captured his attention. When he's busy exploring, it may take a little extra effort to get his focus back, and he has been known to demonstrate a touch of "selective hearing" from time to time!

Despite his age, Bear still has a playful spark. He loves tennis balls and can become quite animated when it's time to show off his skills. Watching him proudly perform his sit and enthusiastic shake is a good reminder that there's still plenty of puppy spirit left in this senior boy.

Bear is an affectionate and cuddly dog who enjoys the company of his people and would love a home where someone is around often to spend quality time with him. He thrives on companionship and is happiest when included in family life.

Due to his gentle nature and preference for a quieter lifestyle, Bear would be best suited to a home with older, calm and respectful children. Young, loud or highly active children may be overwhelming for him, and he is looking for a more relaxed household environment.

Bear must meet any resident dogs prior to adoption. When meeting other dogs, he can be quite forward and pushy, so he is best suited to living with a calm, social female dog who can comfortably handle his approach.

Bear is not suited to busy dog parks, off-leash beaches or other crowded dog social settings. He much prefers quieter walks and controlled interactions where he can feel comfortable and relaxed.

For someone seeking a loyal, affectionate companion with plenty of personality, Bear has so much love to give and will make a wonderful addition to the right home.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
