Nala's Story

Meet Nala!

Nala is a sweet and sensitive lady who is looking for a loving home where she can be part of the family. She adores being around her people and happily leans in for gentle pats, showering those she loves with plenty of kisses. Nala would love a home where she is welcomed indoors and included in day-to-day family life.

While she is affectionate and eager to connect, Nala can be a little unsure in new environments and may startle at unfamiliar noises. She will benefit from a patient family who can give her the time she needs to settle in, build trust, and form strong bonds before gradually introducing her to new people and experiences.

One of Nala's most endearing traits is her love of soft toys. She enjoys carrying them around in her mouth and will often bring them over to gently share with her favourite people. She already knows how to sit and shake, and her eagerness to please makes her a wonderful candidate for continued positive reinforcement training.

Nala will require secure, solid fencing. While she was able to get over a kennel wall during her stay in the shelter, she has no known history of fence jumping in her previous home.

Nala may be suited to a family with older, calm children who can understand her sensitive nature and give her space when she needs it. Any children in the home must meet her prior to adoption. She can become quite aroused and reactive when meeting other dogs, so any resident dogs must also meet her before adoption. Nala came into care with her sister Tipsy, who she gets along with well, and she was able to successfully meet a calm, social male dog in the shelter. She would be best suited to living with a calm, social, and tolerant canine companion who can help her feel comfortable without overwhelming her.

For a family willing to provide patience, reassurance, and plenty of love, Nala will be a loyal and affectionate companion who will repay that kindness with endless devotion.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
