Moxie's Story

Moxie is a sweet and sensitive young boy who’s still finding his confidence in the world. New people and unfamiliar places can feel a little overwhelming at first, so he’ll need a patient family who can take things slowly and give him time to settle.

Once he feels safe, Moxie’s silly, affectionate side starts to shine. He enjoys being around people and is looking for a home where he can be included in everyday family life, both indoors and out. He’ll need a stand-alone home with a backyard, and a family with more than one person who can share his care. Moxie has previously struggled when separated from his people, so he’ll need a steady routine and very gradual, closely monitored practice being left alone.

Moxie’s busy brain will benefit from enrichment, training and plenty of positive guidance. He enjoys his walks and is doing well with his lead training. His new family can continue working on his basic manners, impulse control and confidence, while introducing new places and people at his pace. A cosy crate or den can also give him somewhere quiet to retreat when he needs a break.

Moxie is best suited to a home with older children who can be involved in his ongoing training. He’ll need to meet any children and resident dogs before adoption. He can feel worried around other dogs at first, but has shown he can build positive connections with calm, social dogs. His previous adopters also reported that he enjoyed meeting people and other dogs once he was comfortable.

If you can offer Moxie a calm, supportive home and the time he needs to feel safe, you’ll get to know a silly young companion who’s ready to build a lasting bond with his family.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
