Nala's Story

Meet Nala, a sweet, incredibly affectionate young girl who is searching for a calm, quiet forever home where she can truly be a part of the family. This gentle, intelligent soul already knows how to sit, shake, and lie down, and she would love a family eager to continue her positive training. Because Nala thrives on companionship, she will do best with someone who is home more often than not and who allows her full indoor and outdoor access. She is a sensitive girl who can sometimes become nervous by close handling or restraint; when unsure, she tends to roll onto her belly to appease you.

Her ideal owners will understand basic dog body language, give her space when needed, and use positive reinforcement to build her confidence and encourage her back onto her feet. While she isn't a big fan of playing ball, she absolutely adores her soft plush toys. When it's time for adventures, she walks well on a lead but can occasionally pull when excited.

Because Nala is a clever problem solver with a history of escaping, her new home must feature solid, secure 6ft fencing with no leverage points, alongside secure locks on all gates since she may know how to open them. For her safety, she should be left securely indoors when home alone. Nala may be open to making the right friends; she is best suited to a calm, social, and tolerant male doggy companion, having successfully lived with a male dog before

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
