Cooper's Story

Though we don't have a Boy Named Sue, we *do* have a boy named Cooper!

Well, my name is Cooper, and while I might not be dressed in black just yet, I sure know how to make an impression. This young Kelpie cross boy is all legs, all enthusiasm, and about 90% noodles. Like any country music legend in the making, he's still learning the ropes and needs a family willing to help him find his rhythm.

Cooper is a very food-motivated lad, which means training sessions are music to his ears. He'll need some work on his general manners and lead skills, but with consistency, patience, and a pocket full of treats, he'll be ready to headline family adventures in no time.

As a typical puppy, Cooper is currently moonlighting as a tiny land shark. He's still learning that human hands aren't chew toys, so he can be a little mouthy during play. Because of this, we'd recommend a home with older children, though we'd be open to discussing younger kids with a family experienced in raising energetic working-breed puppies.

When it comes to canine companions, Cooper is a social butterfly. He gets along well with other dogs and would happily share his stage with either a male or female canine friend.

More than anything, Cooper is looking for a family who'll let him grow up as part of the band. He wants to be included in daily life, learn new things, and have plenty of opportunities to use that clever Kelpie brain.

If you're ready to help this little ring-of-fire starter become the best version of himself, Cooper is ready to walk the line right into his forever home. 🖤🐾🎶

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
