Mocha's Story

Mocha is a sweet, sensitive and gentle girl looking for her forever home. Mocha hasn't had the best start to life and has likely missed out on some key socialization; she has spent a lot of her time tethered on a large property with multiple other dogs. She may prefer to be outside at first but would benefit from a home that can provide indoor/outdoor access. She loves people and enjoys being with you. New owners will need to work on continued training with 4 paws and basic manners, she likes to try and jump in your lap and can sometimes be a bit mouthy with fingers. Mocha can be nervous and unsure in new environments and is still learning to walk well on lead. In shelter Mocha has shown some barrier reactivity, so we recommend no front yard access. Mocha enjoys her food and loves using enrichment to help keep her mind busy.

Mocha would be best suited to a family who can provide her with a home with structer and routine, as well as a family than can read and respect her body language and undertand it may take her longer to settle in than others.

Must meet other dogs at time of adoption, would benefit from a non-reactive social doggy friend.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
