Ellie's Story

Ellie is a beautiful young girl with a gentle soul who is ready to find a family willing to help her continue building confidence in the world around her. While Ellie can be a little worried when faced with new people, environments, and experiences, she is making progress every day and has so much love to give to those she trusts. She is looking for patient adopters who understand that she may need some extra time to settle in and feel comfortable, allowing her to explore new situations at her own pace.

Once Ellie feels safe, her wonderful personality truly shines. She is incredibly loyal and affectionate, forming strong bonds with her people and always wanting to be close by. She loves leaning in for cuddles, giving big kisses, and soaking up all the attention she can get. Ellie also has a playful, goofy side and enjoys running around doing zoomies when she's feeling happy and relaxed. Watching her confidence grow and seeing her playful nature emerge is incredibly rewarding.

Ellie will thrive in a calm and understanding home where she can spend plenty of quality time with her family, including being allowed indoors as part of daily life. She looks to her people for reassurance and encouragement and gains confidence from having trusted companions by her side. Her adopters should be prepared to give her time to settle into her new routine before gradually introducing walks, outings, and new experiences in quieter environments where she can feel comfortable and successful.

Because Ellie can become overwhelmed at times, she would be best suited to a home with older, respectful children who can understand her gentle nature and give her space when needed. Any children in the household will need to meet Ellie prior to adoption to ensure she feels comfortable with everyone. Ellie may also enjoy living with another dog, provided they are calm, social, and respectful. She can be worried by dogs that are overly excitable, boisterous, or too forward, so a dog meet at adoption is essential.

As Ellie came into care as a stray, her previous history is unknown. For this reason, a secure yard with at least 5-foot fencing is recommended to help keep her safe and secure while she settles into her new home. Adopters should closely supervise her during her initial outdoor experiences and gradually help her adjust to spending time outside. Ellie will also benefit from a variety of enrichment activities and a gradual introduction to being left alone to help her feel comfortable and confident when her family is away.

For the right family, Ellie will be an incredibly rewarding companion. Beneath her shy exterior is a sweet, loving, and devoted girl who simply wants to feel safe, loved, and included. With patience, kindness, and understanding, Ellie will blossom into a loyal best friend who will repay your efforts with endless affection, companionship, and plenty of happy zoomies.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
