Nala's Story

Nala is a sweet, gentle and sensitive young lady looking for a patient and understanding family who can help her continue to build her confidence. New environments can be quite overwhelming for Nala, and she needs time to feel safe and comfortable before showing her true personality.

Once she settles in and forms a bond with her people, Nala blossoms into a playful, cheeky girl who loves to have fun. She enjoys zooming around the yard, playing, and soaking up attention, especially when it comes to bum scratches. A good bum scratch will have her wiggling her whole body with excitement!

Nala can be more fearful and unsure around men and will require slow, positive introductions to help build trust and confidence. Her new family will need to be patient and allow her to progress at her own pace, ensuring all interactions remain positive and rewarding.

Due to her nervous nature, Nala can occasionally display barrier reactivity when she feels scared or overwhelmed by people passing by. For this reason, restricting front yard access is recommended to help prevent negative experiences and support her confidence-building journey.

Nala is still learning how to feel comfortable while out and about in unfamiliar environments. Short walks close to home, where she feels safe, will help her gradually build confidence before exploring busier or more challenging locations.

She would be best suited to a home with calm, older children who understand dog body language and can recognise when she needs space and time to decompress.

Nala has shown herself to be social and playful with other dogs during her shelter stays and may benefit from having a calm, friendly canine companion to help encourage her confidence. Any resident dogs will need to meet Nala prior to adoption to ensure a suitable match.

With patience, understanding, and plenty of positive reinforcement, Nala will reward her new family with her sweet nature, playful personality, and unwavering loyalty. She is a beautiful girl who simply needs someone willing to give her the time she deserves to feel safe, loved and secure.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
