Lola's Story

Hi, my name is Lola.

I am a miniature fox terrier x chihuahua.

I'm a fun, loving, energetic little dog, who loves people (once I get to know them). I can be a little anxious and unsure of new people at first, but once I get to know you, I'll be your best friend and your little shadow.

I'd prefer to be in a home with older kids (10 years and above) as I can be a little extra anxious around men and young children. But if you are patient with me, I know we will get along great.

I definitely love being around my people and get a little upset when left alone. Because of my small size, I do like to squeeze under small spaces and will try and escape to find my people. Due to this, appropriate fencing is a must.

I'm great with other dogs, but can be a bit unsure of the bigger, bouncer ones due to my much smaller size.

If I had a choice, I'd spend my day right by my family's side; either cuddling on the couch, going for walks or running around having a play in the yard with my best friends.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
