Poppy's Story

Poppy – Bright, Brave & Blossoming Into Herself

Poppy is a 5‑month‑old Border Collie x Bull Arab pup with a curious mind, a gentle heart and a growing confidence that makes her an absolute joy to be around. Like her siblings, she came from a chaotic environment with little structure, arriving underweight and with a dull coat, but with good nutrition, routine and care, Poppy is already transforming beautifully.

Where some of her littermates are bold from the get‑go, Poppy is the thoughtful observer — she takes a moment to assess new things, then steps forward with quiet bravery. Once she knows you, she’s affectionate, sweet and loves being close, happily leaning in for cuddles and soaking up gentle attention.

What Poppy Needs:

A calm but active home — she’s a working‑breed mix who thrives with both movement and mindful guidance.

Daily mental and physical enrichment to help her confidence grow and her clever brain stay busy.

A family who includes her in everyday life, helping her feel secure and connected.

Positive, supervised interactions with friendly dogs — she enjoys canine company and benefits from good role models.

Predictability, routine and gentle structure to help her continue building trust and stability.

Where she's at now:

Poppy is highly trainable and eager to learn once she feels safe. She responds beautifully to positive reinforcement, enjoys toys, enrichment activities and soft encouragement, and loves the chance to stretch her legs and explore at her own pace. She’s agile, smart and quietly determined — the kind of pup who will flourish with patience, consistency and opportunities to use her mind and body.

Despite her rough start, Poppy is affectionate, people‑oriented and ready to form a deep bond with her new family. With the right home, she’ll grow into a loyal, gentle companion who brings warmth, joy and plenty of snuggles.

Why Poppy is special:

She’s thoughtful, sweet, intelligent and steadily gaining confidence — a beautiful blend of heart and potential. Poppy is looking for a family who will nurture her blossoming personality, celebrate her small wins, and give her the structured, loving environment she deserves.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
