Banjo's Story

Meet Banjo! Banjo is a warm, people‑oriented dog who thrives on human companionship and enjoys being included in everyday family life. He is a social boy who forms strong bonds with those around him and is happiest when he can share his day with the people he loves. His affectionate nature shines once he has settled into his surroundings, making him a rewarding companion for a family willing to involve him closely in their routine.

Banjo’s world is guided by his nose. He is extremely scent‑driven and approaches new environments by thoroughly investigating every smell before he is ready to engage. Because of this, he will flourish in a home that can offer scent‑based enrichment and activities that allow him to use nose. He is also very food‑motivated, and responds well to reward‑based training.

Banjo has shown that he struggles with being left alone and is far more relaxed when people are nearby. He will need a family who can include him indoors and help him gradually learn that alone time is safe. A patient, positive approach to separation training will be essential to set him up for success. He would be best suited to a dog‑savvy household, as his enthusiasm during toy play may be overwhelming for children who are nervous around larger dogs.

When it comes to other dogs, Banjo should meet any resident dogs at the time of adoption. He can be a little tense or unsure during initial greetings, possibly influenced by his impaired eyesight, but with time and reassurance he settles. He would likely benefit from living with a calm, social dog who can help him feel secure and confident.

Banjo is looking for a family who will embrace him as part of their daily life, provide enriching activities, and offer the structure and support he needs. With the right home, he will be a loyal, affectionate, and deeply rewarding member of the family.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
