Arlo's Story

Meet Arlo 🐾

Goofy teen. Big heart. Brilliant brain. Professional Velcro dog.

Arlo is the perfect mix of lovable clown and clever companion. One minute he's showing off a new trick, the next he's trying to climb into your lap like he weighs 5kg instead of... well, definitely more than 5kg.

This handsome teenager is completely obsessed with people and thrives when he's in a home where he feels safe, settled, and loved. Since moving into foster care, Arlo has revealed his true colours: affectionate, relaxed, loyal, and utterly devoted to his humans. (If you're familiar with bully breeds, you'll know exactly the level of adoration we're talking about.)

When it comes to brains, Arlo didn't come to play. Puzzle toys? Love them. Enrichment games? Sign him up. Training sessions? His favourite hobby. He's an eager learner who gets genuinely excited about using his brain, and he's already mastered an impressive list of tricks thanks to his foster mum. So far, he's learned to shake, roll over, ring a bell, and a collection of other adorable party tricks that he would be delighted to demonstrate for treats.

Speaking of bells—Arlo is making fantastic progress with his toilet training and is already choosing to head outside when he gets the chance. Smart boy.

As a typical teenager, Arlo occasionally forgets that excitement sometimes does need to be contained. During times of high excitement he can become a little over-the-top and mouthy, but he's highly responsive, easy to redirect, and learning better manners every day.

Arlo is looking for an only pet home for now, where he can soak up all the love and attention for himself. While he can remain calm around other dogs in structured environments, social interactions can be overwhelming for him and he struggles with his manners. His ideal family will focus on helping him build calm, neutral behaviour around other dogs rather than expecting him to make doggy friends.

And what do you get in return?

A hilarious, loyal, big-hearted best mate who will make you laugh daily, love you unconditionally, and follow you from room to room like he's been assigned to monitor your activities.

In fact, Arlo is currently working through a mild case of Stage 5 Clinger Syndrome. Symptoms include supervising bathroom breaks, insisting on being involved in every household task, and believing personal space is merely a suggestion.

His foster mum is completely smitten with him (honestly, who wouldn't be?) but she's committed to helping him find the forever family he deserves so she can continue helping other dogs in need.

If you're looking for a clever, affectionate, goofy sidekick who will keep life entertaining and your heart full, Arlo is ready to meet you.

🐶❤️ Arlo's only requirements: snacks, cuddles, brain games, someone home more often than not until he gets used to alone time, and a human willing to accept that they may never go to the bathroom alone again.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
