Tommi's Story

Tommi is a sweet but sensitive young girl who's had a difficult start in life. She's missed out on important early socialisation, so the world can feel overwhelming at times. Because of this, Tommi will need a calm, patient owner who is committed to helping her build confidence through ongoing training and gentle guidance. She'll be a rewarding project for someone willing to put in the time.

Tommi loves being around people and would thrive as an indoor/outdoor dog where she can truly be part of the family. She may need some time to adjust to indoor living, so having someone home initially will help her settle in and feel secure. As a young working breed, she'll need plenty of mental and physical stimulation - enrichment feeding, scent games, and short, regular training sessions will suit her well.

She absolutely loves her toys and will benefit from learning to return and drop them. Tommi can feel nervous with close handling, so she will need a gentle, patient approach using positive reinforcement to help her build trust at her own pace. She would do best in a calm, structured home with a consistent routine where she can feel safe and supported. May benefit from having another dog in the home to show her the ropes and all household members come in to meet her to ensure a good match.

If you have room in your home and your heart for this sweet, loving girl, come meet her!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
