Meet Captain Cheese - the snack-sized name with a big dog heart If you've ever wanted a best mate with the brains of a Border Collie and the charm of... well, Captain Cheese-your search ends here. This clever boy is bursting with intelligence and will need an experienced owner who can give him a job to do, along with plenty of mental stimulation to keep that sharp mind busy. Captain Cheese is always up for an adventure-whether it's a walk, a sniffari, or a road trip. He's an all-round good boy with a gentle soul and a heart that melts faster than cheese on a hot day. He'd love a secure, loving home where he can enjoy both indoor cuddles and outdoor exploring as part of the family. He would prefer to be your one and only, but may be able to live with a smaller female dog. Male dogs are a no-go for this handsome lad. He's also a huge toy lover and would be thrilled to show you all his favourites! Captain Cheese is being featured on For the Love of Pets, so his adopter will need to be comfortable with filming during the adoption process and a gentle follow-up at home once he's settled. Visit your nearest RSPCA Adoption Centre, RSPCA Op Shop, RSPCA World for Pets or Petbarn store and adopt an animal in person. You can also apply to adopt an animal online.

What will you need before bringing your dog home?

Before you bring your dog home, make sure you have:

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.
