Rusty's Story

Say Hello to Rusty! Rusty is a happy, energetic boy who absolutely loves life and isn't shy about showing it! He gets very excited and can be a bit jumpy when he's having fun, so he'd be best suited to a home with older kids who can handle his enthusiasm. This playful guy will do best with someone who has time to spend with him, helping him learn some extra manners. Rusty already knows his sit and is very treat‑focused (sometimes a little too keen!), but with patience and consistent training he'll shine. Rusty loves to stay busy and will need lots of toys, games, and daily enrichment to keep his clever brain occupied. He's always keen for something to do and would thrive in an active home. When it comes to other dogs, Rusty is happy to meet them, especially the ladies! A meet and greet is a must to make sure everyone gets along. He's still learning his lead manners and can pull at times, but with guidance and practice he'll get there. A home with secure, solid fencing is recommended, as Rusty can be a little reactive in yard situations. If you're looking for a fun, bouncy companion who will keep you smiling and loves being involved in everyday life, Rusty might just be your perfect match!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
