Winter's Story

Meet Winter - a cheeky, fun-loving girl with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Winter is full of life and loves being where the action is. She thrives on connection and would absolutely adore a home where she's welcomed indoors and included as part of the family. Whether it's lounging nearby or following you from room to room, Winter just wants to be involved in it all. This clever girl is a total foodie, which makes training both fun and rewarding-she's eager to please and always ready to learn when snacks are involved! She's still building her confidence with handling and close contact, so she's looking for a patient family who will let her go at her own pace and support her as she blossoms into her best self. Winter will need a home with secure 6ft fencing and would suit a household where someone is around most of the time. She's happiest when she's not left out and truly shines when she feels included and supported. When it comes to other dogs, Winter can be a little unsure at first. However, with a calm, off-site introduction-like a relaxed walk-she settles in beautifully and may even enjoy a play. She could happily live with a calm, tolerant doggy companion, pending a successful meet and greet. Busy dog parks and crowded beaches aren't really her scene-she much prefers quieter adventures. Winter is open to meeting the right family, and kids are welcome to come along for a meet and greet too. With a bit of patience, plenty of treats, and lots of love, she's ready to become someone's very best girl. Winter's journey is also being lovingly followed by the TV show For the Love of Pets, sharing her path to a safe and happy forever home. Because of this, her future adopter will need to feel comfortable participating in filming. This includes welcoming a film crew to capture the adoption meet at the RSPCA, as well as potentially taking part in a gentle follow-up visit once Winter has settled into her new home. Could Winter be the missing piece in your family? 🐾

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
