Valentine's Story

Valentine is a very loveable, affectionate boy. He can be a bit worried in new environments and when meeting new people. He will need patient and supportive family that can take the time he'll need settling him to his new home. Valentine can become a bit aroused and excitable; he can be jumpy and be quite goofy. He will do well with continued training, where he can continue to learn his basic manners and impulse control. He is still a young lad that will do well with regular enrichment opportunities and positive training. He loves his food, we recommend feeding his meals through enrichment toys an activities. We recommend older, calm children in the home that can respond appropriately to dog body language. He can be a bit worried with loud, unpredictable movements. Must meet at time of adoption. Also, he'll need to meet other dogs at time of adoption. Shy worried boy so will need a calm respectful doggie friend. His new owners will need to take things slowly and allow him to settle and bond with the family before introducing him to new doggie friends to ensure that all experiences and interactions that he has are positive. No dog parks, beaches etc. These environments make it difficult to control interactions and ensure only positive interactions are had.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
