Animal is injured, sick or neglected and requires attention.

Dogs love nothing more than to get outdoors and enjoy the smell of fresh air! This May it's the pawfect time to hit the pavement with your companion and raise funds for Million Paws Walk

But before you head off on an adventure with your canine companion, it’s best to give the vet a visit. They can assess if your pooch is fit and able to accompany you on hiking treks, if their vaccinations and preventative medicines are up to date, and if they have any other specific requirements.

Remember - not every pooch may be fond of strangers and other dogs, so you may want to walk solo for Million Paws Walk too.

There are a plethora of local outdoor hiking tracks to tackle – popular ones in Brisbane include Cedar Creek, Mount Coot-Tha and Karawatha. It’s best to start slow and ease your pooch into a routine with simple, short hikes and then build up to longer or more challenging routes.

Don’t forget to read ahead on possible trail hazards such as water, heat, path closures, animals, plants and pathogens.

There’s a trail out there for every human and their four-legged companion, so what are you waiting for? Grab your hiking buddy and start exploring!

Extra Tips: Be sure to check your dog over for ticks after your walk and remember to take it easy with your furry friend in Summer heat and never exercise them during 10am – 3pm. Watch for signs of heatstroke.
