Greyhounds are gentle, intelligent dogs who value comfort, companionship and the freedom to run and play at their own pace. While many are well cared for and much-loved pets, evidence continues to show that commercial greyhound racing poses inherent and ongoing risks to animal welfare.
Community support for change is growing
Persistent animal welfare failures have led to a clear loss of social licence, with community support for greyhound racing in Queensland continuing to decline.
A new DemosAU survey commissioned by GREY2K USA in 2026 found strong public support for reform:
- 66% of Queenslanders support greyhound racing being banned or phased out
- Only 22% support racing continuing
- 64% believe the Queensland Parliament should vote to phase out greyhound racing
These concerns cut across age, gender, income and geographic location in Queensland. They illustrate the changing attitudes and expectations of Queenslanders.
