Barry is a Bearded Collie cross Wirehaired Jack Russell who started off on the wrong paw. At nearly two years of age, this poor little guy came into the Dakabin RSPCA as a scared and confused stray back in April, 2017. Sadly his owners never came looking for him so he was put up for adoption. Barry was looking for a forever home and boy was he in for a treat!

Jenny and Geoff came across Barry on the RSPCA website on the last day of their holiday in Minnie Water, NSW. So eager to meet Barry, they jumped in the car right away to make the four hour journey up to Dakabin! They arrived bright and early to ensure they didn’t miss out on adopting this one-of-a-kind doggo, and adopt him they did. The happy trio set off back home, making it a nine hour round trip. Jenny and Geoff still think Barry was worth it.

Jenny and Geoff live on 30 acres of bushland in Ballandean, a small community in the Granite Belt Region of the Southern Downs. With the Severn River running behind their property, it was the perfect place for a working breed dog like Barry. There were smiles and wagging tails all around as Barry settled in wonderfully. He regularly rides on the back of Geoff's 4-wheeler – something he learnt very quickly and absolutely loves. Barry also enjoys taking long walks along the river; although according to Jenny, he doesn't like the water very much. That said, he adores the beach when the couple go back to Minnie Water.

Nine months after being adopted, Jenny couldn’t say enough good things about Barry. “He is incredibly energetic and loves life, other dogs, his food and the car.” There’s is absolutely no denying that Barry looks like he’s having the time of his life in his new forever home.

Jenny also fondly said, “He is such a joy to have around, always loves to see everyone and he's loyal and mostly obedient, haha, as obedient as any 2-year-old can be. He has certainly changed our lives for the better.”

It’s like music to our ears! From all of us at the RSPCA, thank you so much to Jenny & Geoff for adopting Barry and giving him his happily ever after. Jenny confidently said, “He's found his forever people and we've found our new best mate.”
