Freya's forever tail

Freya was many things - part sheep, part polar bear, a heartworm survivor, and most of all, a once-in-a-lifetime kind of dog. A true 10/10 good girl with a heartwarming tail.

Freya came into RSPCA care at our Bundaberg shelter in 2020, pregnant and suffering from a potentially fatal heartworm infection. Tragically, her puppies couldn’t be saved - but with months of dedicated veterinary treatment, compassion, and care, Freya was given the chance to fight on.

Her journey took her to RSPCA Dakabin, where staff, volunteers, and foster carers rallied around her to nurse her back to health. After 112 days of recovery - much of it spent in loving foster care - Freya was finally ready to find her new home. On day 113, she became available for adoption and just 22 hours later, she found her forever family in adopter Tanya.

From the moment Freya went home, she blossomed. She settled into her new Brisbane home with ease, filling her days with love, gentle companionship, and the simple joys she’d waited so long for. She showed off her impeccable manners (especially when treats were involved), mastered the occasional high-five, and made friends with neighbourhood dogs, including fellow RSPCA rescue Buddy next door.

Freya’s favourite place in the whole world was safe on the balcony with her family, watching life go by. Adopter Tanya described Freya as "the cutest, fluffiest and sweetest-natured dog you could ever find!"



Sadly, Freya passed away in December of 2025. While the call to share this news was a sad one, Tanya spoke with immense gratitude and love. She shared beautiful memories of Freya and wanted to pass on a heartfelt thank you to the RSPCA Dakabin team for bringing Freya into her life and everyone involved in Freya’s care.

In Freya’s honour, Tanya made a thoughtful donation to the RSPCA, helping other animals begin their own journeys toward safety and love - just like Freya once did.

Freya’s story is a reminder that adoption doesn’t just change an animal’s life but gives them years of love, comfort, and unforgettable memories. We are so grateful to Tanya for choosing to adopt, for giving Freya the beautiful life she deserved, and for sharing her story with us.
