Baz's Story

Meet Baz, the happiest, waggiest tail in town! This social and cheerful young fella absolutely adores his people and is looking for a family to join for daily adventures, playtime, and plenty of snuggle time. Baz is a gentle, respectful, and affectionate boy who is incredibly eager to please. While he might occasionally jump up gently, it is only because he wants to get closer to give you sweet snuggles and kisses. He is a certified foodie who thrives on mental stimulation, loving nothing more than tackling food puzzles, snuffle mats, and LickiMats, and he will look forward to daily training sessions to keep his smart mind active.

Baz is ready to transition to life as a true indoor family member, but he does have a few specific requirements for his new setup. Because he previously lived on a rural property as an outdoor dog with little fencing, he became a bit of an escape artist; therefore, he must be allowed indoors and requires a home with secure fencing. His new family will also need to monitor him and gradually build up his time alone to make sure he settles in beautifully. Baz is wonderful with people and previously lived with small children, making him open to the right family with kids. He has also successfully lived with another dog and shown social, tolerant behavior during his shelter meets. If you are ready for a loyal companion whose tail never stops wagging, Baz is ready to meet his match!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
