Slushie's Story

Hi, I'm Slushie! I am a Great Dane x Amstaff so I am going to be a big, beautiful girl! I made my way to RSPCA from the pound; I was a little unsure at first but quickly warmed up to all the love and attention!! Now I can't get enough! I absolutely love getting pats and cuddles and will take any opportunity to jump in your lap! I'm also super dog social too so would love to go to a home with another playful pup! I'm a quick learner and eager to please, especially for a treat, so continuing my training will be easy! I am still learning what the world is like so my new owners will also need to keep up my socialisation so that I grow up into a well-rounded dog! I'm super playful too, I love zooming around and chasing toys. Because I'm only young, I will fit into most family dynamics, however because I'm big and silly I may accidentally be too much for younger kids, so please keep this in mind. So, if you're after an affectionate and playful girl then come meet me today!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
