Emerald's Story

Meet Emerald!

Emerald is an affectionate, playful young girl who is ready to find a family to call her own. Full of enthusiasm and personality, she loves being involved in daily life and would thrive in a home where she can be welcomed indoors and included as an important part of the family.

This lovely girl enjoys chasing toys, running around, and earning plenty of tasty treats. She has a fun, energetic nature and would love a family who can provide her with both physical exercise and mental enrichment. Whether it's weekend adventures, afternoon walks, training sessions, or simply spending time together at home, Emerald is happiest when she's sharing experiences with her people.

Emerald is very food motivated and eager to please, making her a wonderful candidate for ongoing training. She already knows cues such as sit and shake, and with a few extra treats and some consistency, she's sure to learn even more tricks and skills in no time. Feeding meals through enrichment toys, puzzle feeders, or other food-based activities is recommended to help slow down her eating while also providing valuable mental stimulation.

While Emerald is affectionate and friendly, she can sometimes feel unsure about close handling and restraint. She is looking for an owner who can invest the time needed to build a strong, trusting relationship through positive reinforcement training and gentle, patient interactions. As her confidence grows, so too will her bond with her new family.

Emerald may be suitable for a family with children, provided they are respectful of her space and understand that she can be sensitive to restraint. Any children and household members will need to meet her prior to adoption to ensure everyone is a good match.

Emerald is also open to sharing her home with another dog, pending a successful meet and greet. She can sometimes be a little worried by dogs that are very forward in their interactions, but once comfortable she enjoys play. At times her excitement can become a little over the top, so thorough introductions are important to ensure she feels relaxed and confident with any potential canine companion.

With her playful spirit, loving nature, and eagerness to learn, Emerald has all the makings of a wonderful family companion. For a family willing to invest time in her training and confidence-building, Emerald will repay them with endless affection, fun, and companionship.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
