Bonnie's Story

Bonnie is a sweet, exuberant female Shar-Pei who is looking for a loving home alongside her absolute best friend and partner-in-crime, Marley. These two share a deep connection and are a strictly bonded package deal who must be adopted together.

Indoors is where Bonnie thrives best, happily joining in on daily household activities with Marley by her side. She is incredibly smart, eager to please, and highly food-motivated, making her a star student for ongoing training with high-value treats. To keep her clever mind active, she adores a rotating variety of fun toys.

Bonnie can be a little unsure in new environments or with close handling. She needs a patient family who will let her go slow, use "consent breaks," and approach new people at her own pace. Her future family will also need to continue working on her loose-lead walking and impulse control when she gets excited. While Bonnie can be a bit forward when meeting new dogs, she already has her perfect match in Marley. Together, this duo is ready to bring twice the love and a lifetime of built-in companionship to their perfect forever home!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
