Toby's Story

Snuggle-Bunny, Shy, and Your BFFF (Best Fur Friend Furrever!)

Toby is a handsome, sensitive soul who is looking for a special person to help him finally find the stability and love he deserves. Having spent over a year moving in and out of shelters, Toby needs an experienced owner who understands that building trust takes time, patience, and kindness.

While he can be shy around new people and become overwhelmed in unfamiliar situations, once Toby gets to know you, he transforms into an incredibly loving and loyal companion. He adores gentle affection, soft words, cuddles, and being close to his favourite humans.

Toby's Personality:

  • Affectionate and loyal
  • Sensitive and shy with new people
  • Loves cuddles and gentle attention
  • Smart and well-behaved
  • Enjoys routine and predictability
  • A big fan of soft plush toys and squeaky critters
  • Water enthusiast through and through!

Toby's happiest moments are spent paddling in a kiddie pool, splashing through puddles, or standing in a stream with a goofy grin on his face. Water is where he truly shines and feels most confident.

What Toby Needs

Toby is searching for a calm, understanding home where he can continue to grow in confidence.

Ideal Home:

  • Calm, low-noise environment
  • Experienced dog owner
  • Someone home more often than not
  • No children
  • Indoor and outdoor access
  • Consistent routine and structure

Other Pets:

Toby would prefer to be the only pet in the home so he can enjoy one-on-one attention and reassurance from his family.

A calm, well-mannered female dog may be considered following a successful meet and greet.

Daily Life with Toby:

Toby loves his daily "sniffari" adventures, taking plenty of time to investigate every interesting scent along the way. For Toby, the world is best explored through his nose!

He currently enjoys long morning walks before returning to his room to relax and enjoy breakfast. Toby keeps his space tidy and settles well when given routine and predictability.

Although he can become excited when he sees other dogs, he responds well to patient handling and consistent walking routines. With understanding and ongoing confidence building, Toby is manageable on lead and continues to make progress.

Special Considerations:

Toby has noise sensitivities and requires ongoing confidence-building support. He needs adopters who can recognise when he's feeling unsure and help him navigate the world at his own pace.

The rewards are immense. Once Toby trusts you, he becomes a devoted companion who loves nothing more than gentle pats, hugs, and spending time by your side.

Why Adopt Toby?

Toby is gentle, kind-hearted, intelligent, and incredibly handsome. Beneath his shy exterior is a loving dog who simply wants a chance to feel safe and secure.

If you're looking for a loyal best friend who enjoys water adventures, leisurely sniff-filled walks, and curling up for a cosy movie night cuddle, Toby could be your perfect match.

After more than a year waiting for his forever home, Toby deserves someone willing to see the wonderful dog he truly is. Could you be the person Toby has been waiting for?

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
