Learn dog body language
While our canine companions can’t speak to us verbally, we can learn a lot about what they are saying through body language.

Meet Cosmo!
Cosmo is a sweet, energetic young working breed with lots of love to give. While he can be nervous in new environments and around unfamiliar people, with patience, understanding and the right guidance, he'll blossom into a loyal companion. Once he feels comfortable, Cosmo becomes your shadow, happily settling beside you and enjoying being part of the family. He can be quite talkative at times and loves being involved in whatever you're doing.
Cosmo is looking for a calm and experienced home that understands his needs as a working breed and can provide plenty of structure, routine, and positive guidance. As a young dog, he still has lot to learn and will benefit from ongoing training to help him build confidence, improve his manners, and develop better impulse control. He is a clever boy who already knows how to sit and is highly food motivated, making him eager to learn through regular training sessions. At the very least he'll need 1-2 hours of mental stimulation activities and physical exercise.
Being included indoors as part of the family is important for Cosmo. He may also benefit from crate training, which can provide him with a safe and secure space when he is feeling overwhelmed or uncertain. Daily mental enrichment and physical exercise will be essential to keep him happy and fulfilled. He loves rope toys and tennis balls and enjoys interactive play with his people.
Cosmo can be sensitive to loud noises such as sirens, loud music, and cars backfiring, and may also be worried during storms. His new family will need to continue building his confidence through positive experiences and gentle desensitisation. He is also still learning lead manners and can become jumpy and darty when overexcited or unsure, so calm, controlled training sessions will help him make great progress.
In his previous home, Cosmo enjoyed digging, so providing him with an appropriate outlet, such as a sandpit or designated digging area, would be a great enrichment activity. Hiding treats and toys for him to find can help channel this natural behaviour in a positive way.
Cosmo will require secure fencing and a home without cats or small animals. He can be unsure around other dogs and has shown some fear-based reactivity, so any resident dogs must meet him prior to adoption. He may do best with a calm, social and tolerant female companion, although he may also prefer being the only dog in the home. Ongoing training around remaining calm and neutral around other dogs will also be important. Due to this, dog parks, off-leash beaches, and similar busy environments are not recommended.
Cosmo would be best suited to a home with older children who are experienced with dogs and are able to meet him before adoption. With the right family, plenty of patience, and continued positive training, Cosmo has the potential to grow into an incredibly rewarding and devoted companion.
