Miguel's Story

If you're looking for a loyal companion with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Miguel might just be your perfect match! This affectionate goofball loves being around his people and thrives when he's included as part of the family. Miguel is best suited to a home where he can spend plenty of time indoors, enjoying all the comforts and companionship that family life has to offer.

Miguel absolutely adores human company and would happily spend his days by your side. Like many enthusiastic dogs, he can sometimes forget his manners and get a little excitable, particularly when greeting people, resulting in a bit of jumping up. He will flourish with an adopter who is committed to continuing his training, rewarding calm behaviours.

While Miguel has shown some interest in toys while in shelter, we expect his playful side to shine even brighter once he's settled into a home environment and feeling comfortable.

Miguel is a big fan of food, and we highly recommend feeding his meals through food-based enrichment to provide both mental stimulation and a fun outlet for his energy. Great options include Kongs, Kong Wobblers, snuffle mats, snuffle boxes, egg cartons, and even clean milk bottles. Enrichment activities like these can help keep Miguel happy, engaged, and satisfied.

Miguel would be best suited to a home with older children or teenagers who can also be involved in his ongoing training and help reinforce good manners. Miguel must meet any resident dogs prior to adoption.

Miguel is a lovable, fun-loving boy with so much potential. With guidance, consistency, and plenty of inclusion in family life, he's sure to become a wonderful companion who will keep you smiling every day.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
