Otis's Story

Otis – Smart, Social & Ready for Adventure

Otis is a 5‑month‑old Border Collie x Bull Arab pup with a bright mind, a big heart and an enthusiasm for life that’s impossible not to love. He and his siblings came from a chaotic environment with little structure, arriving underweight and with poor coat condition, but Otis has bounced back beautifully with care, routine and good nutrition.

Where his brother Milo is sensitive and unsure, Otis is the confident, social member of the litter. He enjoys meeting people, seeks out affection, and loves being close — he’s the pup who happily puts his paws up for hugs and leans in for connection.

What Otis Needs

  • An active, engaged home — he’s a working‑breed mix with energy, brains and drive.
  • Daily physical and mental enrichment to keep his clever mind satisfied.
  • A family who includes him in their day‑to‑day life, not just watches from the sidelines.
  • Supervised interactions with other friendly dogs — he enjoys canine company and should have no issues mixing with sociable pals.
  • Structure, routine and predictability to help him continue building confidence and security.

Where He’s At Now

Otis is highly trainable and eager to learn. He thrives on positive reinforcement, enjoys toys, games and enrichment activities, and loves the opportunity to stretch his legs and go full zoomie mode. He’s agile, speedy and full of personality — the kind of pup who will excel with guidance, consistency and opportunities to use both his brain and body.

Despite his rough start, Otis is affectionate, people‑oriented and ready to bond deeply with his new family. With the right home, he’ll grow into a loyal, active companion who brings joy, fun and plenty of cuddles.

Why Otis Is Special

He’s smart, social, affectionate and energetic — a wonderful mix of heart and drive. Otis is looking for a family who will embrace his enthusiasm, nurture his potential and give him the structured, loving environment he deserves.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
