Magnolia May's Story

Magnolia May, also known as Maggy or Mags, is a sweet, affectionate, and cheeky young pup who is looking for a family to show her just how fun life can be. Having come from a remote community, Maggy may have missed out on some early socialisation, so she will thrive with a patient and understanding family. Being allowed indoors as part of the family will help her build confidence, and crate training may be beneficial as it can provide her with a safe, comfortable space when she is feeling overwhelmed. Maggy is a quick learner and absolutely loves her food, which will be a great motivator for her ongoing training. She is still working on her four paws manners and basic obedience, and she already knows how to sit. She is learning to enjoy toys and, once comfortable, loves to run around and play with them. Feeding from enrichment toys is recommended to keep her mind active and engaged. Maggy is a young dog with lots of potential who is open to the right family willing to invest time, love, and guidance. She is ready to find a home she can truly call her own!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
