Ghost's Story

Ghost is a gentle, sensitive boy searching for a calm and understanding home where he can gradually build confidence at his own pace. Having come from a remote environment with limited early socialisation, the sights and sounds of everyday life can feel overwhelming for him.

Ghost will thrive with a patient and compassionate adopter who can offer a quiet home, a predictable routine, and plenty of positive reinforcement to help him feel safe and secure. He is still learning about indoor living and will need slow, supportive introductions to help him adjust and feel comfortable in his new environment.

He can be unsure with unfamiliar people, so it’s important that all interactions are calm and respectful - taking things slowly and allowing Ghost to set the pace will help him build trust and confidence over time. Ghost has previously lived with other dogs, and may benefit from the companionship of a calm, well-matched dog, with slow introductions to ensure a positive start.

A low-traffic home with older, quiet children who understand how to give him space would be best suited.

With patience, kindness, and a gentle approach, Ghost has so much potential to grow into a loyal, loving, and devoted companion.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
