Sullivan's Story

Sullivan is a truly sweet and lovely boy who’s ready to find a calm, understanding home where he can feel safe and supported. With his gentle nature and eager-to-learn personality, Sullivan has so much love to give to the right family.

Sullivan absolutely loves his food! To keep his clever mind engaged and help him slow down his meals, he would really benefit from enrichment feeding—think puzzle toys, snuffle mats, or other interactive feeders. These activities give him a positive outlet and help build his confidence at the same time.

Sullivan is looking for a patient and compassionate home willing to take things at his pace. He may feel worried or unsure in new environments, especially in loud or busy places. He would thrive with someone who is home more often than not during his first few weeks, giving him the time and reassurance he needs to settle in.

Being a sensitive boy, Sullivan may show resource guarding with food and valued items, so he will need an understanding family who are committed to ongoing management, structure and positive training. When he becomes overwhelmed he can become a bit jumpy and mouthy, so would do best in a home with calm, older children who can understand and respect his boundaries. All children in the home must meet him prior to adoption. He will also need to be the only dog in the household so he can feel secure and supported.

Sullivan may need a little extra time and guidance, but in return, he will reward you with loyalty, sweetness, and a truly special bond. If you’re ready to help a gentle soul grow in confidence and feel safe in the world, Sullivan could be your perfect match!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
