Zuma's Story

Meet Zuma - a bright, cheeky young boy with a whole lot of heart 💛 Zuma is the kind of dog who turns heads and wins hearts. He's sweet-natured with just the right touch of sass, and his expressive personality keeps life interesting (and entertaining!). A lad who isn't shy about sharing his thoughts, Zuma is eager to connect, learn, and be part of the action. Still very much in his developmental stage, Zuma is looking for an experienced owner-ideally someone familiar with his breed-who understands the commitment, structure, and guidance he needs to truly thrive. With the right leadership and consistency, this clever boy has all the potential to grow into an incredible companion. Zuma would greatly benefit from ongoing training and would love to attend classes to help build his confidence and skills. A secure home with 6ft Colourbond fencing is essential to keep him safe while he continues learning about the world. What makes Zuma's journey even more special is that it's being followed by the TV show For the Love of Pets. His search for a safe, happy forever home is being shared with a wider audience, celebrating the impact of adoption and second chances. Because of this, Zuma's future adopter will need to feel comfortable participating in filming. This includes welcoming a small film crew during the adoption meet at the RSPCA, and potentially a gentle follow-up visit once Zuma has settled into his new home. These moments help showcase the beautiful reality of adoption-and your story with Zuma could inspire many others to open their hearts too. Zuma is open to meeting the right family. Visit your nearest RSPCA Adoption Centre, RSPCA Op Shop, RSPCA World for Pets or Petbarn store and adopt an animal in person. You can also apply to adopt an animal online.

What will you need before bringing your dog home?

Before you bring your dog home, make sure you have:

  • Collar and ID tag
  • Lead and harness
  • Food and water bowls
  • Appropriate dog food

  • Comfortable bedding

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.
