Peanut's Story

Meet Peanut - a sensitive, affectionate boy with a gentle soul and a slightly goofy side. Peanut is looking for a calm, quiet home with a patient owner who understands he needs time to feel safe and settle in. He can be a bit of a worrier, so a consistent routine and peaceful environment will help him build confidence at his own pace. Once comfortable, Peanut loves being close to his people and will happily lean in for pats and affection. While not overly interested in toys, he has been known to carry them around and he absolutely LOVES enrichment, especially his snuffle mats! Peanut would do best in a home with older, calm and respectful children and needs to meet any possible canine siblings at the time of adoption. He can be a bit worried by other dogs so would do best with a calm relaxed doggy friend. Peanut is a sweet, sensitive boy who just needs patience and understanding-in return, he'll be a loyal, loving companion with plenty of quiet, goofy charm.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
