Odin's Story

Meet Odin, a big lovable goofball who doesn't really know how big he is, and often forgets how big his happy wiggles can get! Due to his previous owners health, Odin has missed out on some fun and training, meaning he can get a little bouncy and overexcited sometimes. But he is always up for a yummy treat and is eager to learn some new tricks! Loud noises aren't his favourite and can make him a bit worried, so he will need someone patient to remind him that everything's okay. Odin will need to be the only dog in the home, however he is social with other dogs and would benefit from continued socialisation on walks! He will also need a secure yard with solid fencing and no gaps. He will thrive in a calm home that can provide him structure, training, and lots of love. Due to his size and strength, he will need teens in the home that can get involved in his training and help him succeed! With a little time and guidance, Odin would love to be the best big goofy boy you've ever met!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
