Odin's Story

Meet Odin: Equal Parts Genius, Goofball and Professional Sidekick

Have you ever wanted a training partner, adventure buddy, personal shadow and couch companion all rolled into one very handsome dog? Well, allow us to introduce Odin.

Odin is an intelligent, affectionate and hilariously enthusiastic dog who approaches life with the energy of someone who's just had three coffees and found out it's their birthday.

One of Odin's favourite hobbies is learning. In fact, if there were a university degree in "earning treats," he would already have graduated with honours. He's incredibly food motivated, loves training and is always keen to show off his latest skills. Whether you're teaching him a new trick or reinforcing existing behaviours, Odin is happiest when his brain is engaged and snacks are involved.

When he's not busy being a star pupil, Odin enjoys getting out and about on adventures. Bush walks, sniffaris, open spaces and exploring new places are all high on his list of favourite activities. He's much more of a "let's explore nature" kind of guy than a "let's stroll down a busy suburban footpath" kind of guy.

At home, Odin is a big softie. He absolutely adores his people and firmly believes that wherever you are is exactly where he should be too. Cooking dinner? Odin would like to supervise. Watching TV? Odin would like to watch too. Going to bed? Excellent, Odin was hoping to join that activity.

Like many clever and enthusiastic dogs, Odin occasionally gets a little carried away by life. He has made fantastic progress learning emotional regulation and handling frustration, but he'll thrive with someone who can continue providing calm, consistent guidance while appreciating that sometimes his excitement gets slightly ahead of his decision-making.

Odin is looking for a home with adults or older teenagers and would prefer to be the only pet, allowing him to soak up all the love, attention and treat budget for himself. Trust us—he has enough personality to fill the entire household.

Odin has already come such a long way and is ready to find a family who will appreciate his intelligence, celebrate his quirks and laugh at his occasional moments of dramatic enthusiasm. In return, you'll get a loyal best friend, enthusiastic adventure companion and full-time comedy act.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
