Paw-sing for Million Paws Walk

Posted Apr 13, 2023
The doggy daycare centre, Paws and Relax are one of our top fundraisers for Million Paws Walk

Paws & Relax are long term RSPCA Corporate Supporters, in fact, they’ve been proudly participating in the Million Paws Walk since they opened in March of 2014. This year the doggy day care has seriously outdone themselves - currently one of the Top Fundraisers in Queensland and the second across Australia! We sat down with Paws & Relax to chat about supporting the Million Paws Walk, and why this year is especially special for the team.

What brings you back to RSPCA Million Paws Walk year after year?

The Million Paws Walks is always a fun day that brings our Paws & Relax community together with other dog lovers to support the wonderful work the RSPCA does.  Our team and pet parents love being involved in all the RSPCA events and fundraising activities to help raise funds and spread the word of the great achievements the RSPCA does by helping animals find their fur-ever home.

This year you’re walking for a purpose, aren’t you, can you tell us a little more about that?

Yes, this year has even more relevance and importance for our Paws & Relax community. Recently, we tragically lost little Peaches to immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (IMT), a condition in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys blood platelets.

Peaches (alongside her brother Milo) started with Paws & Relax the very first week we were open.  Along with their pet parent, they are a major part of Paws & Relax and our whole community was shattered at the news of her passing.

The RSPCA rescued Peaches from a disgusting puppy farm and she was given an amazing life by her loving pet parent.  Every year they have raised funds and walked in the Million Paws Walk to give back to the RSPCA for what they did for her and so many other animals. This year our team will be walking in honour of our beautiful little Peaches and remembering all her happy memories.

What does the Million Paws Walk mean to your team?

It means a fun, social day filled with puppies and laughter and all for a wonderful cause!

In past years you have received the ‘Largest Team’ trophy, how have you gone about building the Paws & Relax fundraising team for Million Paws Walk over the years?

Our team are all great advocates of the RSPCA who love encouraging everyone to get behind the cause and show our support! We register as soon as we can and go about rallying our wonderful team on Facebook, sending emails and reminders in the centre. Our dog parents always jump at the chance!

We have such a supportive and fantastic community of dog parents that are always so keen and happy to come along.  They instigated the Paws & Relax green t-shirt so they could proudly stand out as they walked together with all their puppy friends.

What would it mean to the Paws & Relax team if they take out the top fundraising spot in 2018?

This would be amazing for us! Of course, it’s not what we do the walk for and anything we win would just be a bonus. But we do love rewarding our wonderful community of dog parents with the recognition they deserve. If they aren’t walking, they are donating items, adopting and supporting a cause that’s important to all of us.

We proudly display our trophies in the reception area to serve as a wonderful memento and inspiration for our community of our awesome they are.

What are your top tips and tricks on building your Million Paws Walk fundraising support?

Share far and wide! Talk to friends, family, workmates, neighbours and anyone who would love to jump behind the RSPCA and animals they care for. Every cent counts!

Any other words of advice?

Thank you to everyone who is supporting by walking and donating. Have fun on the walk, stay hydrated and keep you and your dog safe and happy!

Thank you Paws & Relax and your dog loving community for all of your support!
