Babs's Story

Meet Babs, your future adventure buddy!

Babs is a gorgeous young Border Collie x Maremma pup with a soft black-and-white coat, bright eyes, and a whole lot of potential. At just a few months old, she’s already showing that perfect mix of clever, curious, and cuddly - the kind of pup who’ll thrive with a family ready to guide her through the big, exciting world.

Personality

Babs is a sweet, gentle girl who’s still learning about life. She’s playful, people‑oriented, and loves being included in whatever her humans are doing. With her working‑breed mix, she’s naturally smart and observant - the kind of pup who’ll pick up training quickly with positive reinforcement and consistency.

Ideal Home

Babs will suit a home that can offer:

  • Daily exercise and opportunities to explore, sniff, and use her brain
  • Gentle exposure to new people, places, and experiences
  • A calm, patient family who can help her feel safe as she grows
  • Inclusion in family life - she’s not a backyard ornament
  • Another friendly dog would be a bonus, but not essential

Training Needs

Like all young pups, Babs is still learning how to navigate the human world. She’ll benefit from:

  • Puppy‑appropriate structure and routine
  • Positive reinforcement training
  • Support to build confidence
  • Opportunities to make choices and learn at her own pace

With time, love, and guidance, Babs will blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion who’ll stick by your side through every adventure.

Ready to meet her?

Babs is currently in our Bundaberg shelter and will be ready for adoption once she’s completed her vet work. If you’re looking for a bright, loving pup to grow up with your family, Babs might just be your girl.

What should I feed my puppy?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my puppy?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
