Mambo's Story

Hi, I’m Mambo 💙

I’m a gentle, sweet boy who’s still learning that the world can be a safe and kind place.

When I first arrived, I was really scared and unsure about everything around me. It’s taken me some time, but with the help of some lovely humans, I’ve started to feel a bit braver every day. I’ve built special bonds with the people I trust, and once I know you, I’ll want to be right by your side, leaning in for pats, sitting close, and just enjoying your company.

I can feel worried in new places, so I will need a calm, patient home that lets me settle in at my own pace. At first, I would prefer to stay close to home instead of heading out on big adventures. Once I feel safe with you, we can slowly explore the world together.

I’m still figuring out how I feel about touch. Sometimes I can get a bit overwhelmed and a little mouthy if it’s too much too soon. I just need you to go slow with me, give me breaks, and help me learn that handling can be a good thing, with lots of yummy treats to help. Once I feel comfortable and safe with you though, I am incredibly loving, a big leaner, and I really enjoy being close to my people.

On walks, I’m getting better, but I do feel nervous in busy areas, and I am still learning my lead manners. I am a strong boy, so quiet, calm walks will suit me best while I build my confidence.

The good news is I really like other dogs. I’m soft, social, and relaxed around them, and I’ve done well meeting new dog friends, even ones who were a bit unsure themselves. If you have another dog, I would love to meet them first to make sure we are a good match.

Because I am still learning and can get overwhelmed, I would do best in a home with older teens who understand how to read my body language and give me space when I need it.

I am a work in progress, but I am also incredibly loving, and with the right person, I will be the most loyal and gentle companion you could ask for.

💙 If you have patience, kindness, and a quiet home, I would love to find my forever or foster family with you.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
