Sadie's Story

Meet Sadie, the sweet and gentle canine companion who longs for a loving forever home where she can share her life with her beloved friend, Zoomie the cat. While Sadie may initially be shy around new people and surroundings, her heart is full of love waiting to bloom for those who earn her trust. She adores attention, relishing in the comfort of companionship. Sadie is best suited for a tranquil home environment where her family is present often to shower her with affection and support. Due to her nervous disposition, she would thrive in a household without children and as the sole canine, ensuring she receives the undivided attention she deserves. If you're ready to open your heart to Sadie and provide her with the patience and love she craves, you'll be rewarded with a loyal and devoted companion for life. Sadie and Zoomie's journey is being lovingly followed by the TV show For the Love of Pets, capturing their path as they search together for the safe, happy forever home they truly deserve. Their story is a very special one, and this opportunity allows their new beginning to be shared and celebrated with a wider audience. To be part of Sadie and Zoomie's journey, their future adopter will need to feel comfortable participating in filming. This will include welcoming the film crew to capture the adoption meet at the RSPCA, and potentially taking part in a gentle follow-up visit in the home once they have had time to settle in and truly shine in their new environment. These moments help highlight the incredible impact of adoption and give Sadie and Zoomie the happy ending they deserve. If you're open to sharing in this experience, you'll be helping to show just how life-changing a second chance can be-for both Sadie and Zoomie and their new family.

Visit your nearest RSPCA Adoption Centre, RSPCA Op Shop, RSPCA World for Pets or Petbarn store and adopt an animal in person. You can also apply to adopt an animal online.

What will you need before bringing your dog home?

Before you bring your dog home, make sure you have:

  • Collar and ID tag
  • Lead and harness
  • Food and water bowls
  • Appropriate dog food
  • Poop-scooper
  • Comfortable bedding

  • Tick, flea and worming products

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.
