Heather’s loving legacy

Posted Sep 15, 2021
Heather’s local community knew her passion and kindness for animals well. For almost 40 years Heather was a dedicated supporter of RSPCA Queensland, making a world of difference to those in need.

With a smile on her face and always up for a chat, Heather held animals in the highest regard and did all she could in life to ensure they had a bright future. Heather generously supported the RSPCA, funding our Wacol Bird Adoption Aviary, our new Foster Clinic as well as being a loving foster parent, a devoted adopter, a dedicated volunteer and now, a bequestor.

Sadly, this year we farewelled Heather, but she made sure that she could still keep helping animals into the future by leaving a gift in her Will to RSPCA. She also ensured her pets were included in our Home Ever After program, which meant we could care for her pets when she no longer could.

More than a quarter of our animal welfare work is funded by gifts in Wills from supporters just like yourself, helping to operate our Inspectorate, Animal Care Centres and Veterinary Clinics.

Gifts in Wills also help us pay for programs like behaviour rehabilitation and foster care, providing emotionally traumatised animals and those recovering from surgery, time to heal. They also support long-term initiatives such as education and animal advocacy work.

Although we already miss Heather’s presence around the RSPCA, her love for animals and ability to help more animals into the future, will live on forever. Her generosity means other animals in need now also have a safe haven to call home.

Writing a Will can seem confronting for some of us, and it is something that many put off doing, but it is important to have a Will to ensure your loved ones (including your animal family) are supported into the future.

RSPCA Queensland has partnered with Safewill, a leading online Will writing platform so  you can write your Will for a discounted price of $80 until 17 October, 2021.

Safewill provides an easy way to write your Will and it takes about 20 minutes. You can save your draft online and return to it later too if you need more time to gather extra information.

Of course, you’re welcome to consider RSPCA Queensland in your Will just like Heather did, but please note it’s not a requirement to access this service and offer.

Heather said that leaving a gift in her Will to the RSPCA was an obvious choice, “I know that animals cannot look after themselves and I would like to support them into the future”.
