Volunteers needed: Help us make a difference

Posted Jan 31, 2024
Are you chasing a new hobby or way to give back? Why not volunteer with us in 2024?

We are calling on prospective volunteers 16 years or older with any level of experience to put their hands up to join the over-2000 strong volunteer force, with dozens of rewarding roles in different areas of the charity available.

Volunteering with us means being a part of something that changes the lives of our furry, feathery, or even scaly friends

Right now, our 21 Op Shop stores are where volunteers are needed most with only half of all store shifts currently filled.

Meet one of our dedicated volunteers

Angela Lack has been volunteering at RSPCA’s Wacol Op Shop for two years. She encourages anyone eager to learn new skills and make lifelong friends to volunteer.

"There are some people who haven't worked for a long time, like mums or older people, who I think would love a role like this one in our Op Shop," said Ms Lack.

"For younger people, there is an opportunity to pick up a new hobby if that is something you want to pursue this year, come in and see if we are the right fit for you."

Where can I volunteer and what are my duties?

There are currently 23 volunteer Op Shop & Retail positions open for application, with RSPCA’s Brisbane Op Shop locations at Lawnton, Brendale, Stafford, Brassall, Moorooka, Stones Corner, Sherwood, New Farm and Ascot.

Others include Loganholme, Robina, Ashmore, Mount Tamborine and Bundall.

Op Shop Assistant positions involve customer service, point of sales operations, merchandising, sorting pre-loved items, and undertaking general store duties.

The duties of this position can vary depending on your skills, interests, and enthusiasm. It offers hands-on experience with a talented team while also helping to raise funds for thousands of animals in need.

Whatever role you choose contributes to the common goal we all have, the wellbeing and love for animals.

Where is Gen Z?

Did you know that only 1 in 5 of our RSPCA Op Shop volunteers are under the age of 30?

We'd love to see our 16- to 27-year-olds (our Gen Z) sign up to help! Op shops have great bargains, are all about sustainability through pre-loved sales, and you could even have some gems hiding in your cupboard you’d like to donate to our RSPCA Op Shops too...

How do I get involved?

In a world that can be so challenging at times, being the advocate or friend to our animals can really make a difference for you both. Apply to become an RSPCA volunteer here. Or email [email protected].
