Hi, I’m Koda

Koda is a shy affectionate boy. He is not for first time dog owners and needs someone who has breed experience and is willing to put the time and effort into him that he deserves. Koda needs a calm quiet mature home (older teens and adults) with not much foot traffic. He can be very nervous in new environments and with new people and startles easily. Go slowly when introducing him to new people and places as he can take a little while to warm up to them. Providing crate/mat training can help with this, giving him a safe place to retreat to where new people DO NOT come near him. This gives him time to warm up and decide if he wants to approach them in his own time. He is very worried in new environments so do not take him for walks until he has settled into his new home and start with short walks around the home during the quiet part of the day. He is best suited to a home where someone is home more often than not as he showed some signs of anxiety during his Behaviour Assessment. His new owner will need to be home for the first few days and gradually work on leaving him for longer and longer periods, leaving him with enrichment to use while alone such as long lasting chews and toys. He may need to be left indoors when home alone. His new home should allow him indoors to be part of the family. He will bond best if he gets to spend as much time around the family as possible. Koda will enjoy being your only canine family member.
