The position will involve the daily cleaning of the animals' pens at our Gladstone RSPCA Centre. This includes laundry, hosing, sweeping and scooping up of poop! Hygiene control is very important, as is ensuring that the animals remain stocked up with food, water, bedding and toys.
People applying for this position need to be happy to work hard, be physically fit, and be willing to get their hands dirty for a good cause! Though you'll be rewarded with the company of our gorgeous animals.
Volunteers are responsible for one or more set shift per week. Available shifts will vary dependent on vacancies. Induction training provided.
Animals will include dogs and cats, but may also include birds or other animals from time to time.
Skills required – Confidence with animals, the ability to work independently, the ability to stand for long periods, be physically fit, ability to cope with increased noise levels, attention to detail, ability to follow instructions.
Skills to be gained – Animal husbandry, animal handling and training techniques, animal disease control, animal shelter experience, basic animal behaviour knowledge.
